Fondazione Agnelli

In 2013, the Giovanni Agnelli Foundation became a Strategic Partner of the University by establishing the Avvocato Giovanni Agnelli Associate Professorship in Economics. On the tenth anniversary of the passing of the Italian lawyer, the Foundation decided to invest in this important project to promote the best young talents engaged in research on applied economics. It is an endowed Professorship assigned every five years to a Bocconi professor with an undisputed reputation in their area and whose research interests include applied economics. The first professorship holder was Chiara Fumagalli, Associate Professor in the Department of Economics, followed by Francesco Decarolis, Associate Professor in the Department of Economics, and Mara Pasquamaria Squicciarini, the current holder. Her research interests are in Economic History and Economic Growth, with a focus on the role of religion, culture, and human capital in industrialization and progress.

Through the funding of the Professorship, the Agnelli Foundation has been helping the University for years to attract the best figures in the field of scientific research and contributing to the advancement of applied economics studies on major issues affecting business.

The Agnelli Foundation has chosen to donate to the endowment, demonstrating that it places great trust in the University, its mission and its management of resources. The University’s endowment fund is capital that the University invests in the long term generating an annual return, which guarantees the independence and sustainability of Bocconi activities over time.
